We’re getting stuck right in now and have driven to Pisa to visit the leaning tower and all its other delights. Honestly, as we were driving in it looked like a derelict wasteland with a tower in the middle. I thought “tourist trap, great!”
But we stayed at a really good campsite – Torre Pendente – with amazing showers and facilities and really friendly staff, just 15 minutes walk from the tower and decided to go join in with the rest of the tourists and see what the fuss was about.
Glad we did. There’s a whole city full of small cobbled streets, fantastic statues and great restaurants as well as the infamous Leaning Tower.
Tourists apparently stayed away as you could take unobscured pictures in front of the tower and surround grounds so easily. Luke absolutely loved having his picture taken in front of the tower. Especially under the direction of a fellow tourist who told him to pose as if leaning on it. (see photo below).
The heat was something else, but I suppose we need to start expecting nothing less as it been hotter than the sun ever since we started this trip.
Also, special mention to the MOSQUITO POPULATION OF ITALY!!!! We look like dot to dot colouring books, not kidding. How anyone does what we’re doing but manages to hold the little twerps off, please let me know. I’ve accepted my fate now, destined to have itchy red bumps everywhere – I mean EVERYWHERE – forever. But I would love a good 24 hours without getting bitten and having my blood forcibly removed from my body. Cheers.
Overall though, a really amazing few days in Pisa, if you have a bit of adventure in you, it’s a great day out.
Love the trick photos! Sorry to hear about the bites. X
