Croatia

After some debating over what to do after Slovenia, we decided Croatia was probably the easiest way to go to get back over to the coast and would be great to get the last of “summer” by the sea.

Our journey started just outside Zagreb at an amazing little camper stop called Val-Travel, where the sun was shining and the animals roamed around again. Great hospitality here so it was a good start to a new country.

We then drove through the mountains on a cold and rainy day over to the coast to a seaside town called Senj and enjoyed a few days becoming cat parents at Kamp Skver. One little cat in particular just stole my heart (and food) and spent the mornings sleeping on my lap until he was ready to go on his own daily adventures. It was hard to pull myself away šŸ™

But Senj is a gorgeous town with loads to explore, beautiful pebble beaches and amazing sunsets over the sea. Obviously the clocks went back and its not exactly July anymore so it was a bit of a shock watching the sunset at 16.30, but it just meant we had to get out a lot earlier to enjoy the whole day.

After Senj we headed down the coast to Zadar but stayed just outside the city near Bibinje with the camp stop to ourselves and another pebble beach and crystal clear waters which was perfect for an early morning swim. But don’t be ridiculous, we waded in ankle deep at best – It is late October!

Halloween hit us and usually I’d be at home preparing my house for whatever ridiculous party theme we’d chosen but given that we were abroad and Boris’ UK lockdown announcement was imminent, we got costumed up, put up a few decorations in the van and Zoomed with friends back home. Honestly, given the circumstances, it was a pretty decent Halloween! We only actually saw Zadar for a few hours given that a certain boy was feeling a bit worse for wear but what we saw was really nice. The old town was obviously our favourite and the Sea Organ was really cool.

The first week or so in Croatia was amazing, and we’ve both been really surprised by how quiet it is. A few people have told us it is Covid related, and even at this time of year there would be plenty of tourism, but there have been days where we’ve pretty much been the only people walking about. Just glad to make the journey back home with some great sights along the way!
